Greig deftly splices dry comedy and poetic observation together to portray Robert and John, two Cambridge scientists, who venture out to a remote island inhabited by an old man and his niece just before the Second World War. There they discover that a request from the Government for them to survey the wildlife masks a project for anthrax tests.
This dark political spectre proves a plot catalyst that ultimately does not conceal that this wild, spirited work is about the quest for freedom and love.
